Early Life and Education

Peter Muhlenberg was born on October 1, 1746, in Trappe, Pennsylvania. His parents, Henry Melchior Muhlenberg and Anna Maria Weiser, were German immigrants who had fled religious persecution in Europe. Muhlenberg's father was a Lutheran minister, and his mother was a daughter of the renowned Mohawk chief, Conrad Weiser. Muhlenberg received his early education at home, where he studied Latin, Greek, and theology. He then attended the University of Pennsylvania, where he graduated in 1768 with a degree in medicine.

Ministry

After graduating from medical school, Muhlenberg pursued a career in the ministry. He was ordained as a Lutheran minister in 1772 and served as pastor of several churches in Virginia and Pennsylvania. Muhlenberg was a gifted preacher and quickly became a popular figure in the colonies. Revolutionary War
